What is Entrepreneurship & Startups
Entrepreneurship is the work of building something other people pay you to use. Most people who fail at it don't fail from a shortage of ideas, they fail by solving problems nobody asked them to solve, for customers who exist mostly in their pitch deck.
The actual discipline is small and uncomfortable: talk to real potential buyers about their actual lives, ship the smallest possible version of your idea before you feel ready, and let reality vote on what's next. The plan is wrong. The customer is the teacher. Your job is to listen, ship, learn, repeat.
Why bother
Make it concrete
Two friends couldn't make rent on their San Francisco apartment in 2007. A design conference was coming to town and all the hotels were booked out. They blew up three airbeds in their living room, took photos, made a one-page website, and rented those spots to designers who couldn't find a hotel. Three guests showed up. That was Airbnb's first version, no platform, no funding, no app, just an airbed in a living room and someone willing to pay for it. They didn't sit in cafes whiteboarding a marketplace strategy. They tested the smallest version of the idea on real strangers, in a real city, in a real weekend. Everything they built later came from what those three guests taught them.
