There is a ladder from knowing a fact to using it to inventing something new. Most teaching parks at the bottom rung.

Definition

A hierarchical classification of cognitive learning objectives, originally proposed by Benjamin Bloom in 1956 and revised in 2001, ordering thinking from remember through understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, and create.
